How to tell if a home is furnished

By KATHERINE MACKINASAssociated PressIKEA is using the word “furniture” to describe a home in the United States, but it’s a word that doesn’t exist in Japan.
The home furnishments department at Ikea has been posting pictures of items on the wall of its stores to show that it is equipped with everything from bookshelves to bedding to clothes.
The company said Tuesday that it will be adding the word in English on the home furnishables department’s home page in Japan as well.
The company says it is trying to provide more clarity to consumers about the meaning of the word, and will post photos of items in Japanese on the company’s website.
The word is often used in Japanese to refer to furniture that is made with Japanese materials.
Japanese companies are trying to broaden their consumer base in the wake of the global financial crisis and the Great Recession, which hit Japan hard.
The term furniture is often confused with the term “futuristic,” which refers to products made in the 1960s.
Futuristic refers to things that are similar to things from the 1970s and 1980s.
